c5 2002 2.0 hdi manual gearbox problem

hi guys i rearly hope you can help today i changed the starter motor and battery hopeing to cure the poor starting on the old girl but no still the same ,i got it started with a squirt of quick start and went for a run, however on the way up the street my 3rd gear dont engage no crunching nothing it just revs as if in neutral ,is it possible i have knocked of a wire or something any help would be great thank you.

If its the same box as the 406 uses the ferules on the gear lever end of the cable come loose, so as you try and put it into gear it pushes the whole cable out instead of just the centre, the cure is to crimp them with a pair of mole grips.

Just follow the gear change cables back to below the gear lever and you will find them.

ok got the car up just looking under where the gear lever comes out it is completly concieled by a long ali muck and heat shield just gonna take this off think i have to unbolt eahaust as well or maybe only the front bracket

i got the heat shield off what a pig it would be so easy without the exhaust in the way god only knows if it will ever go back on lol, anyway i can see the box now and where the cables go in does anyone know how to get in it

ok guys i am begining to get that sinking feeling there is nothing wrong with the cables or ferules any more ideas anyone

I'm not au-fait with the C5 and the gearbox cables, but was it just 3rd gear? What about 4th & 5th. Does it still drive OK some gears?

yes all other gears are ok and car drives perfect just no third gear

i think this could be an internal gearbox failure what do you chaps think

are the cables adjustable or is there any adjustment on the gearbox end

Does it feel as though its going into gear but nothing is happening or is there no resistance when you move the gear lever?
