MAF sensor C5 2001 2lt HDI

Post by Jeff »

While changing oil, oil filter and the air filter today I noticed a bit of water in the bottom of the air intake box so took the opportunity of checking the MAF plus I'd already noticed I have intermitent loss of power going up steep hills, have to cog down into 2nd while other times fly up in 3rd.

I sprayed the MAF with switch cleaner and wiped gently with a cloth but found the finer of the two element is broken -
suspect I helped it break as the EML came on 20 seconds or so after starting up the car. The car still drove okay with a very slight delay when accelerating.

Any advice please on where to source another MAF at reasonable cost? Also will the engine be affected at different speeds / fule economy / go into limp home mode etc...

Thanks Jeff

I bought mine for that same model off Ebay, obviously a non original part at around £30ish but it's worked fine now for two years.

The wires are very delicate and the lightest touch will break them, as will dropping the MAF.

Gibbo,

Did you buy yours from the uk or abroad? I see from Hong Kong listed on one of the cheaper suppliers but would prefer buying from uk if possible?

I rang a scrappy today and he wanted £30 for a MAF which he will pull off a car if/ when i get there, when I mentiond they could be bought for £30.00 off ebay he said they were after market as if to say vastly inferior? But yours has lasted 2 years and counting?

Thanks for any advice given

Have not had time to get a replacement MAF sensor sorted out yet.

Driving home tonight after doing a total of 28 miles since the MAF was damaged - now getting an intermittent audible beeping sound with "SPEED TOO HIGH" message on the dash, only doing 20-30mph.

Is this as bad as it gets as I probably wont replace the MAF sensor until the weekend?

Does anyone know?

The "Speed Too High" is not related to the MAF - it is selected from the menu and is (presumably - never tried) able to be adjusted.
Mine is set at 30mph in case I get too enthusiastic driving around town.

Scroll through the menu and deselect it or adjust to your preference.
