C5 2002 questions

Post by MaxPrimal »

Hi people.

Can anyone answer these questions for me.

I have a Citroen C5 Exclusive 16V Auto (2.0l Petrol), 2002 reg.

1) Is there anyway to "dumb down" the automatic wipers or even bin them for a standard intermittent setting? I am getting sick of it going to full on - worse double speed when all I want is intermittent or normal speed. The automatic wipers seem like a good idea, just poorly implemented.

2) MY heater is great when I put it on 28c, gets nice a toasty. But when I turn it down to 27c it is like opening a fridge door. I used to sit my old Primera at 26c on low fans and be nice and comfy in the winter months.

3) I have not had a petrol car since 1997, is it worth putting in stuff like RedX or anything else to help the fuel economy these days or does it just come down to sensible driving to try and eek out what I can. I know I won't get hte 40+mpg I got driving a diesel but I want to get the best I can, and also being an automatic I am trying not to drive with a lead foot and late braking (as I have no clutch to dip now :( ).

Thanks
MAx

Hi Max

Can't help you with the wipers I'm afraid but your heater problem may be due to a faulty external temperature sensor, what is the display reading, If its showing a much higher temperature than it actually is the sensor wants replacing, its in the bottom of the passenger side mirror.

I haven't run a petrol car for about 30 years so can't help you there either, the only thing I will say is that my 2.0. Hdi C5 will do over 60 mpg driven gently 8-) don't get a 2.2 though they are dreadful on fuel.

1) There are options in the lexia to change the wipers, I wasn't brave enough at the time to have a fiddle around with them. Good to see someone with similar issues.... mine seems to be they don't go on when it's raining and I have to do it myself, or if they do turn on, and the rain eases off they keep going.

2) Not had this on mine, find it funny that you have also came from a Primera :) mine was a 03 reg 2.2 Diesel, lovely car, shame I had to leave it in the UK. Never quite put it up to 26C think 24 was my max.

You might want to make sure the windscreen is spotlessly clean where the rain sensor is (usually on the mirror mount). If this is dirty the sensor will get a refection, and will trigger the wipers (as it thinks the screen is wet).

Hi Peter. The outside sensor is knackered. It was saying 48c when it was really -5 last week!!! If I need a replacement I will ask the local scrap yard and see if they have a C5 in that I can steal the sensor off as I need a couple of other bits as well.

Mine was a 2004 2.2Dci SE. Loved it until part of the engine decided to go see the outside world and killed the car (outside a cemetery of all places :) ).

The wipes are driving me insane, I may have a word with my local garage who have access to a Lexia next time I need something doing and see if they can "correct" the problem if nothing else can fix it....

Thanks

Hi Max

You can use a scondhand one but get it from as late a vehicle as possible because they don't last long. I think most Citroens and Peugeots use the same one, I know the XM is the same. They are about £30.00 form Citroen.

Good idea bar there being no intermittent setting I can use which is why I have to put it on Auto at times to get something which can somewhat pass for one.

The wipers are driving me insane
Mine did too until I replaced the passenger's side wiper blade.
It didn't wipe the rain sensor properly.
It's easiest to work on the wipers when they're stopped pointing upwards.
To park the wipers vertically, take the key out after stopping the engine, then within 30 seconds push the wiper stalk down once.

Thanks for the ideas. I will take a look at the wiper blades and sensor area at the weekend and see what I can see.
