pipe clips

Unread post by froggy »

Hi, on my 1997 Xantia, I have got these very infuriating pipe clips ( not jubilee clips) I have managed to undo one with a scriber but I am unable to clip back together! is there a special pair of pliers or a "knack" of clipping them back together? worst case , I will replace with good old jubilee clips, but I was hoping to keep the same clips. any ideas ? cheers Terry .

Yes, there is a special tool for them and it makes them infinitely re-usable... Laser make such a tool and they are/were available from Halfrauds. I can't right now but later I can supply the full details of the instrument you need.

Meanwhile, it's often possible to clip them back together using a pair of wire-cutters. The knack is to get thin blades under the clip part and wire cutrters can do that quite well with practice. No substitute for the pukka tool though...

I have the proper tool, although its good its not 100% by any means, sometimes they won't go back together.

Sidecutters do work very well though, used to use these myself for these kind of clips.

Carpenter's pincers work fine too, or even ordinary pliers with a bit of treatment on the grindstone :)

Buy a pair of snipe nose pliers from the £ shop take them over the grinder without getting them too hot and you have a cheap pair of useful pliers.
