Whats this bit??

Unread post by Allante666 »

Hi,
Just half way through a clutch change on my Mk1 Xantia SD and as I was getting it propped up I noticed this on the exhaust manifold. What is it?

Also, whats a 'sinking xantia' and a 'anti sink' one?

Thanks

Im not sure, looks like a typical clutch adjustment?

A 'sinker' is a Xantia without anti-sink, the car will sink to its low suspension position when parked for a while. A car with an anti-sink valve will keep its suspension level at normal ride height.

Is yours a sinker or an anti-sink model?

Clutch? Its on the exhaust manifold! I was guessing that it was some sort of valve to divert hot air to the inlet etc. it's where I imagine the turbo would be if it had one. Just thought it looked complex for a diverter valve. Sink? When I leave mine overnight the back end just sinks maybe a couple of inches that's all. Does that make it an anti sink?

Looks like an ordinary wastegate on a turbo engine, to me?

Excactly, it's the wastegate and wastegate vacuum actuator...

It's oily which suggests one or other of the inlet pipes is a bit loose/leaky and may be leaking off a bit of boost... Else thet, check the pressure lubrication feed and return pipes to the turbo for leaks.

Later SD's had a low pressure turbo.

Sinkers were 93-94, one or two may have been registered in 95
