c5 gearbox level plug

Unread post by 411514 »

As above does anyone know if a 2003 2.0 c5 hdi gearbox has a fill level plug on the gearbox or is it just a
case of filling with the specified amount of fluid.

I have found the drain plug and am guessing the box is just filled via a breather on top but i cannot find
a level plug, i believe it is an ML5 box, any pointers gratefully recieved,
cheers sam

It took some time to "dig" this pic. from archives  Finally found it under the year 2008 album :)
The blue circle shows the filling plug (Thanks to RichardW 8-) ).

I always use the breather plug for filling. 1.8 l is the official amount, I simply pour down 2 x 1 liter.

There is one i think - but it's on the back of the diff somewhere (god only knows why!). Easiest just to drain then refill via the breather or reverse light switch with the right amount of oil - use ONLY 75W80 - and preferably TOTAL BV stuff

I'm pretty sure that pic is wrong VV - service.citroen just shows that as on ordinary bolt with no seal behind it - whereas there is 'Casing plug' (with seal) on the back of the diff - it's probably the one shown sticking out with a bigger head just up and right from the drain plug you have highlighted red. Which is is why it's impossible to get at with the 'box in the car
