HDi won't start , help

Post by bxzx16v »

Had to be recovered by the AA today , the dispatch (2006 2.0 hdi 8v) cut out in the middle lane so I coasted onto the hard shoulder , tried restarting it but not a hope , the AA man said there's fuel in the filter and says it's a fueling issue , has anyone any ideas and potential costs etc , thanks

I presume a Dispatch has a pump in the fuel tank so can you hear it running? Turn on the ignition without starting and you should hear a faint buzzing for about 5 seconds.

Also check the "kill switch".
It normally located near the firewall. You can reset the switch by pushing it.

It's none of the above , the fuel tank pump is buzzing as described & the kill switch is ok

In that case I think your next port of call will be a Lexia session. I take it the timing belt is OK with the engine turning over normally?

Yes the timing belt is fine , the AA patrols diagnostic wouldn't read fuelling etc . A friend works for Peugeot so he's going to plug his diagnostic in and see what it throws up . Been told that with it being a very late 2.0 Hdi 8v the pumps a very good so I'll have to wait and see. Will post up the results. Thanks

Just got the diagnosis for the Hdi dispatch , it looks like possible waterpump/pulley problem as part of the timing belt is shredded , I've been told to strip and inspect the water belt/pump etc and try another timing belt as I may (very doubtful) have got away without any damage ????? Anythoughts on this please

The HDi is an almost safe engine - timing belt failure just breaks a few rockers. Whip the rocker cover off and have a look for any broken ones. If there are none, then you will probably get away with just fitting a new belt etc. If any are broken, then you will need to replace, and fit new belt. Either way should be recoverable - but the rockers are not that cheap....

Mark,
There are several sources on ebay selling rockers for the Hdi engine. Prices seem to vary between £8 and £15 depending on which engine it is.

Your quoted £25 sounds like main stealer price.
