numpty lexia key programming question!

Post by Timmo »

Evening guys,
after the demise of my remote locking due to a confused wifey as to why it wouldnt work so press harder and pop the micro switch off, and my unsuccesful attempts at soldering, ive decided to seek a couple of spare units to get reprogrammed via my garage mans as he has lexia,
Now, the numpty questions! Do the keys that are being programmed need to have a cut blade to work the ignition or do they simply need to just be in??
Also! Would it be possible to just switch the boards from inside the other keys to the cut key pod and program them so to have programmed pods and get some blanks cut at a later date for the spare pods?? Like one of these?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-SYNER ... 4aad89ff97
Ordo i need that done before,??
sorry for the questions but like to get it clear in the head before i speak to my mechanic man!

Ta muchly in advance!

When programming the key transponder Lexia states "use key no ** and turn on the ignition" (or words to that effect) so in answer to your question I'd say you need a key cut so that the ignition can be turned on by it.

The remote locking function is separate from the key programming, so if you programme a remote then remove the PCB and put it in another case it should still work.

On the C5, when I had a blade cut I needed a new transponder chip to go inside the plastic handle. These chips are single time programmable only and will need replacing to pair up with your car's ECU.

I'm not sure if your car also uses single programmable chips but it's something to bear in mind.

They're about £15 or so from locksmiths. Not all locksmiths can offer the full key replacement service so you may have to look around.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

I've re-programmed several S2 Xantia remotes and keys without a problem.

why cant you just switch boards from S/H fob/s to your original fob with corect key blade, just for the purpose of re/programming the remote's,

also i dont mean to be a party poooper Mr Birdman,

but as i have said in another thread citroen and peugeot give the radio and securaty card key codes out for nout now, at least in the UK, as i have had both from my local dealers now,

Malcom,
That was my original tought (in first post), could I not just pop the board from a second hand key into mine instead of having blanks cut, but figure may as well get the keys cut first and then am all ready to go!
