C5 HPi Big Lever

Post by birstall »

So what's the big metal lever for in the engine compartment that swings horizontally back and forth? (Somewhere in the area below the HP pump). Summer/Winter setting adjustment?

I've got a picture but I can't seem to post it up anywhere.

Can I email it to someone to give me a hand?

Cheers

I am clueless, not many members have HPis so it could be a while before this is resolved.

Of course! I was thrown by the HP pump reference but later pumps were on the gearbox end driven directly off the camshaft.

Looks like gear linkage to me.

A Seat TDi I used to have had a big metal weight like thing on the gear linkages, I think it was some sort of centralising weight.

OK, I'm going to throw it into the back position before I set off in the morning and see what happens.

Those are the gear control levers, connected to the gearshift by the cables, one is the move across neutral and the other shifts the gears in and out.

Yep deffo the gear linkage, if you get someone to move it while you are inside you will see the gearstick moving.
