Electrical issue...

Post by CitroenLover »

About once in every five times I go to start the 405 1.9TD up, when I turn the ignition to the start position, everything cuts out!

Lights, ignition icons, interior lights - Everything!

If I turn it back to off, then turn it to the starting position again, everything goes well, and it fires up.

And before you say it, I have cleaned the battery terminals, and the connectors on the leads.
Citroen's may be slightly unreliable... But that's what makes them fun!

Sounds more like worn connections in the ignition switch.

Have you done voltage checks? I had something similar recently and there was oxidisation rapidly building between post and terminal; I "lost" 9V when comparing voltage at the post to voltage on the connector.

And never forget earths, especially the thick earth cable to the stud on the top of the gearbox and the other thick earth cable 'twixt battery and bodyshell.

Sometimes the crimps (where the cables enter the clamp) on the battery clamps can go high resistance. They often give themselves away by running warm when there is a heavy load on the go.
