Has anyone had a remap or got a tuning box fitted to their hdi , was wondering is it worthwhile or not , just a bit conserned about reliability and the extra stress on the mechanicals etc , thanks

I have a tuning box on my c5 for the last 14k with no problems, its got great low end pick up, I would get one again, I did do my clutch but it was the original one with 160k on it so I don't blame the tuning box, i like the tuning box as opposed to remapping because I can take it off and put it on my next car or just sell it and get some money back

I also have a tuning box on my 110bhp Xantia, done 28k with it now. still strong as ever. The extra performance gained is also very impressive!
I would recomend one, it appears to not affect my fuel consumption at all, remaining around the same as normal..

I don't think you can get a tuning box for a 2.1 as it isn't under computer control.
Unless you mean the 2.2 engine?

Well if it's the PSA XUD11 engine then I think they don't know what they are selling. There's loads of 'experts' selling on tuning files that's come from who knows where. Such maps usually turn off any immobiliser features to allow them to be universal, make your engine smoke like a demon and/or adjust the wrong parameters with sometimes major consequences. You really need a 'real' reference before buying such services.

Depends on the Fuel System..
Early 2.1 engines in the XM are Mecanical ONLY up to 1997..
Then when it was fitted to the Xantia it gained Lucas EPIC semi electronic, which have an ECU that may be "Chippable" but they are not completely electronic.. So it could be a possiblity to Chip a 2.1 LATER engine from 1997.
