Fluid Leak

Post by Ross »

Just noticed a fluid leak which is coming from the large nut and pipework on top of what I think is the fluid pump driven off the engine belt - is it safe to simply tighten the nuts up or is it best to take the thing apart - is there a copper washer or similar that is likely to require replacement - been here before - seems simple but then gets complicated - lol - must be an Xantia thing

If you mean a leak from UNDER the 199mm nut the 12mm flare nut for the hydraulic supply pipe to the regulator screws into then the job is a simple one.

All you need do is replace the O ring under the big nut and these cost pennies from a dealer.

Confirm this is where the leak is coming from and one of us will supply the part number.

NEVER, EVER try to stop leaks by tightening things up. It makes it worse at bast and invariably causes damage. A nip is enough.

Early? Been up hours!!!!

Here's the O ring you need Ross... Item 5

The stealer may make you buy 10. No worries, just sell them on here - there's always a ready market...

Take care removing the 19mm nut as there is a big spring under it. Go easy as if the spring jumps it may disturb a ball and seat.

be prepared for a big LHM spill too...

You may also know theres a Blank'd 19mm nuts on the opposite outlet!

Ive got one of these leaking, is there also a Spring, disk and ball behind the other one? Does it use the same seal?

Yes, pretty certain it is the same Paul, as it's the cap for the other piston of the 2 piston side of the pump...

if you can see the hole of Jims diagrham it shows two diferent size's of seal, on the description, part No. and dimention's,

4 and 5 are the two diferent seals required at diferent points on a pump

5 goes on the 19mm pipe union and the 19mm blank on the other side of the pump (not visible in Jim's picture)
4 goes under the torx ones which I have to say, I've never seen leak.
