non-aircon v6 aux belt

Post by citrov6 »

My aircon went just before xmas. I say went, but it was still connected to the drive permanently for some reason so the bearings went and it is still whiring away whenever the car is driven so Ive limited that to short journeys.

What I think I need to do short term is switch to a non-aircon belt, that way I can have it de-gassed and drive it without the pump turning. I'm thinking one of the belts from a non-aircon will work for this. Not sure what the roller layout is with non-aircons if this is a workable idea

Non Air con V6??

In this country, werent they ALL equpit with air con? My guess is, you have to hazzard a guess at the Length of belt and then specify the length needed rather then the application you want..

I may be able to help here CitroV6..

I have a V6 engine sitting in my garage at present, minus aircon but otherwise more or less complete. I have a selection of belts as well so I'll see what can be achieved in that direction...

Been out, braved the cold and came up with this:

Image

This shows the routing that should work. The belt shown is too long.

I reckon, using a tape measure in place of the belt, that you'll need a 6PK1420 belt although you may need to experiment with belts around the 1400mm length to find one that fists best and will tension acceptably.

This Dayco catalogue page shows all the 6PK belts available.

Any good factor should be able to supply a 6PK belt by size, alternatively, take a tape measure to your local Halfrauds and measure their selections...

Hope that helps a bit.

Wont the Air Con compressor need removing, as the belt will still skim the top of the pully, will it not??

Good point Paul 8)

How about this routing then?

Slightly compromised on alternator drive but should work.

For this route you'll need a 6PK1230 or 6PK1245 belt...

Brilliant :) thanks for doing that I'll go round halfuds tomorrow see what I can find around 1400mm. I take it the designation 6kp1425 means length 1425mm or I suppose that would be far too logical I better take the tape measure

Yes it does :D For once something entirely logical!!!

the 6PK bit means 6 "peaks" or rows on the belt and the number is the length in mm...

Halfrauds belt part numbers are similar in that the length is in there. They usually number something like HB1130g

Excellent, that will make it simpler. I'll get around 1230mm tomorrow and see how it works out.

I did measure the path later that day it was 140mm shorter than the original and cut across between the alt and crank pulley missing the aircon. So I ordered the closest belt a 1472mm and it was a bit tighter than the 1623mm that Jim recommended as standard replacement but has some give, the tensioner compressed quite a bit but it looks like it is working ok

the more conventional one,

crank
hydro pump
pulley
alternator
crank

it misses the aircon comfortably almost like they knew when designing it

Sorry to bring this thread up again.

I'm going to fit the aircon back this weekend hopefully and was wondering if its a 1625mm or 1620mm Dayco belt that was recommended by CitroJim. I can't find the thread where its mentioned.

I think it was a 1625mm and the tensioner was extended quite far to keep its tension but easier to put on than a 1620mm

Then that should be it, spheres, heater blower, drivers window regulator and it should operate like a semi normal car like before :)
