New Xantia hdi owner.. engine light on though :(

Unread post by seany87 »

Hi there Citroen people!,

Ive recently acquired (for the princely sum of £0!) a tidy x reg xantia hdi 90.

however the engine light is permanently on, but performance seems fine.

what might be the issue here? I.E what can I check on it, perhaps a sensor? (if so which ones are the likely culprits)

Thanks for the help to a newbie guys!!

Welcome!

It can be a FOREVER guessing game with the light on in a HDi engine!

You REALLY need to get it connected to a Code reader and have the ECU Fault codes read off, you could be chasing a fault forever!

Cheers!

hmmmm, Im guessing that its going to cost the earth to get it plugged up and looked at though? Any idea how much a dealership would charge in comparison to a specialist?

Not sure it is a lot of use to you but I bought a 110 Hdi last year. Done 37,000 miles in it since and it runs fine. However I suspect that the engine light will be on all the time as the bulb has been removed. If I ever have to take the dash out for another reason I will replace it and see, but life's too short otherwise. If it was on all the time I would have probably have taken it out by now myself.

Anything around the 60 odd quid for a read, much better with an Indy..

That's a lot of money for plugging in a Lexia

Have a look at the Lexia sticky and see if there is anyone on here near you with a Lexia who might do a diagnostic for you Sean.

As all seems OK, it'll only be something minor but the MOT man may object to it come MOT time.

Can I take this opportunity to reiterate the request that any willing Lexia owners froward their details (Postcode an willingness to read other member's cars, any limitations) so we can post a map of where each one is located, as per the Citroen Relay model.

Send details by PM rather than on an open forum.

I will only post an approximate location rather than a precise one, anyone wishing to avail themselves of the service can then take contact via PM or email and make whatever arrangements may be necessary.
