Is this (photo) the Xantia clutch clip?
I did post this under another forum, but not sure it's the right place.. anyway, is this the clutch clip that breaks? The pedal on the 1.9 has hit the floor, and I need to know if this is the problem, and what to ask for at the dealer's.

Looks like it Tim,
This is a whole one..
Get one from a main Steaker as the GSF-supplied ones often come (as this one in the picture) does not come with the all-important metal clip whereas those from a main stealer do.
Odd as both carry the same part number.
The metal part of the clip is important and this needs replacing as this often bends and distorts beyond use when the plastic bit snaps....
The picture also shows the part number. 2128 21

When mine has broke (twice!), it's the metal clip that's broken I taken the plastic part out with it.
Over time I think the metal fatigues, spreads out & allows the cable to pull out.
When I did the second fix I made an aluminium "U" shaped piece that now fits around the metal clip, held together with a small nut & bolt & holds it snugly round the shoulder of the cable end.

Hope the car has not been driven with a duff clutch. Third gear synchro gets very agitated over clutchless-changes and can show it's displeasure by becoming very crunchy
Have fun! Replacing a clutch clip is a sort of Xantia initiation ceremony
Honestly, as long as you're pretty small of stature, flexible and the bolt is the "right way" it's not too bad. Just take care not to get trapped in the car as if the drivers door shut whilst you are head-down in the footwell, you're trapped as you can't reach the handle and in a Xantia footwell, nobody can hear you scream Seriously, make sure SWMBO is nearby and is aware of the trapping potential of this job.
A good torch and Blu-Tak is your friend, along with a 13mm ratchet spanner...

As long as you don't mind making a spectacle of yourself, do it in the car park...
As you're tall, mind your feet on the headlining otherwise you may have some explaining to do for SWMBO when she sees footprints up there

I have spent an hour in the footwell, with my feet up against the the rear window - I am not kidding.
I have managed, but I don't know how, to extricate this:
I am a bit confused as to the origin of the chite circular piece, as it's not part of the broken plastic piece. Notice in the next picture how the metal clip itself is broken:
I could not get a ratchet/closed spanner on the nylon nut. This was hell. The spanners kept falling off, and I suppose that's where the blutak would have helped, Jim.
On re-assembly, should I reverse the bolt? Did everyone else do this job one-handed?

The circular part goes on the pedal pivot that the securing bolt goes through, and the RETURN spring sits over it.... Its an absolute fiddle to get the return spring back in the correct place to hold the pedal down...
Later cars from about 1997 P reg, have a MUCH better return spring that runs parralell to the pedal... and it assists holding the pedal in the up postion to press the spring clip into position...

This, for me, was one place Blu Tak came in handy but yes, it is a game to get that lot all in place and keep it there.
As for reversing the bolt Tim, I think you'll find it'll only go back in easily one way. Whichecver proves easiest really...

Yes ALWAYS!
I do every time! Push the bolt in from the heater side, then with the nut in the OPEN END part of a spanner with some tape over one side to hold the nut and stop it from falling out tighten the bolt up into the nut...
USE the open ended side because if yur bolt is slightly too long and goes upto the brake pedal BUT DOESNT meet it, you wont get yur spanner out again....
