C5 Suspension fluid

Unread post by mooseshaver »

Hypothetically speaking, if I thught my C5 LDS was low, and I topped it up to where it should be, then discovered I had infact had it on the normal height instead of its lowest height, what would happen?
And if I kept driving around pretending it hadn't happened? Does it have an escape?

I don't really have anything to get it out with. Think I will just leave it.

Not got those, but I could buy one from somewhere. Would quite like to know if it is dangerous to run it like this?

Do you have to check the level on it's lowest setting with these C5's then? That's bound to catch a few loyal (ex-xantia) owners out and a smattering of incompetent back-alley mechanics ... oh, probably me too

Yes on the lowest setting, and no interesting glass thingy to look at, juse a cap that tells you you shouldn't remove it, and then look in the hole like you used to look at radiators

dangerous to run it like this?
Can’t be dangerous, the worst that can happen is that the excess will overflow at the low setting, which is when the tank is fullest.
Checking the level at the low setting isn’t a bad idea, because when you nearly brim it there, the level is necessarily correct for the higher settings.
There’s no sorcery to LDS and LHM filling; the limits are lack of fluid at the high setting, and overflow at the low setting.

After syphoning the old LHM from the Xantia with a transparent plastic tube, I refill close to the brim at the low setting, and the indicator for the high setting has always fallen into place.
Picture of Xantia tank with overflow pipe on the filler cap:
