ZX Cooling Fans

Unread post by chemexhants »

I have a 1997 ZXTD and neither of the cooling fans will work.

The fans turn freely by hand. I have tested the thermo switch and have power at both pins 2 and 3. I have shorted pins 2 and 3 across to make both fans operate but they won't. I have checked the fuse in the main fuse box and those in the supplementary box. I swapped the relays around (just in case!). The wiring harness looks fine. The earth connection is clean.

I think I'm missing something obvious so suggestions gratefully received.

You will probably find that the sensor operates a relay and the usual problem with relays is that the connection blades become corroded. I am afraid I dont know where it is but look for any in the area and give them a good wiggle.

Isn’t it something like shorting pin 3 to earth for the low speed, and both pins 2 & 3 to earth for the high speed ? :?

Thanks for the replies.

Found a loose power connection behind one of the relays which is now resoldered, and this has resolved the issue.
