The difference is the mirror glass itself, which is backplated with a heater circuit, which in turn is powered by the rear screen demister circuit.

Early 1.9 SX TDs have them. Or at least mine has. Wonderful things.

Both my 1997 SX and 2000 SX have them. I've always assumed that electrically adjusted mirrors are always heated but I could be wrong.

I should have jumped on this thread earlier - but now it's finished...

Both my Xantia heated rear mirrors have stopped heating! The drivers side gave up in November and the passenger side a few weeks ago. Do the heating elements burn out? Has anyone had similar problems and found a solution? To be honest, I've been rather afraid of taking the glass out - I've had remote mirrors before that have broken when the glass is removed...

When i had my Xantia 1 of the mirrors stopped heating.I got a new glass which was about £12 iirc.Fitted it & all was well.So yes,i would say that the elements do burn out.
It was easy to change the glass.I think you tilt the glass down towards the kerb, then using a thin small screwdriver, relase the securing clip behind the glass, then the wires & out comes the glass.

Are they electric though?Do you have the switch on the drivers door below the elec window switch(if fitted). If not,it may be like my old VSX without leather heated seats in that they use a standard wiring loom on all models wether the options are fitted or not.I had all the wiring plugs under my seats for the electric seats you see.
My Dad had a 96 P reg TD LX a few years ago. That did`nt have elc mirrors.
Cheers,Neil :)

I'm under the impression they only heat when the rear heated screen is activated, could that be why they don't appear to work for V8?

I've bought some 'silver' electro paint to repair some faults on my rear heated screen. I'm hoping that it'll improve the demisting which is terrible compared to my old 405 estate.

yes that sounds reasonable. theres wiring loom going into the seat but all the adjustments are manual and seats arent heated so its probly the same case on the mirrors

Thanks for that Neil. I'll be brave and take the glass out and see if I can find out why they have stopped working. I assume it's an age thing with both giving up so close together; they must have done their x hundred hours! I'm damn reluctant to buy new glass when I don't have a breakage...

I think theres some kind of circlip arangement holding the glass in place.Once the mirror glass is tilted down you should be able to see it. :)
