Dealer only I think. They're not that expensive - the two bottom links (P/No 2454 E6) are £12.57 each, and the longer top one (P/No 245275) is £19.75. It's usually only the top one that needs replacing - it breaks apart at the gearbox joint.

Its worth lubricating the bits you don't dismantle - like the gear lever bearings - it makes a surprising difference. I used spray grease on the gear lever - which is easy to apply!

Jeremy, what spray grease do you use? I've seen thick, sprayed grease on car linkages before but have never seen spray grease on the shelf that seemed similar - most of it appears to be thin stuff. Do you have any recommendations?

The stuff I use is quite thin with a solvent that evaporates rapidly leaving a moderate film behind. The first can I bought was Comma from the motor cycle section of Halfords - and the present one came from my friendly accessory shop and may be Morris's

I find it penetrates quite well and of course doesn't run away and evaporate like engine oil.

Thanks Jeremy, I'll have to buy some and try it. I note GSF have gone over to Morris in a big way! This kind of puts me off as I had a Morris Ital once, and it wasn't what I'd call technically advanced - more technically challenged...

Ah yes but Morris Oil run a Sentinel steam lorry so all must be good!

And - yes they stock a specially developed oil for its crankcase!

I've used their products (not exclusively) for years and always found them fine - but to be fair when I've used anything else it hasn't lead to instant siezure.

Well Ive done the job and what a difference its made. only thing is now Ive sorted the gear links ( new ones ) out plus other things, I can hear a clonking noise when I change gear but it only happens when I'm drving the car it doent happen when the engine is off or when engine is running and I'm just putting her in gear. The clonking doesnt always happen every time I change gear but mostly happens in 3rd and 4th.

Sound seems to be coming from the gear box side of the engine.

Any ideas what it could be ?
or is it because the gearlinks are new ?

Thanks Vaughn
