Hi Malcolm, I have heard that this can be caused by the fibrous tubular ducting under the air filter box becoming perished and collapsing.. causing a vacuum in the intake. best wishes, martin
I won't do that again

The intercooler ducting should be under pressure, otherwise there would be no turbo boost, is the turbo boost present? The only way the hose would collapse, due to vacuum, would be if the turbo wasn't working. Are you sure its an intercooler hose?

What martin said, or blocked air filter.

Air can still get through the compressor in quantity, running or not.
