Wind Back Front Brake Pistons

Post by windysurferuk »

Hi

I'm in the middle of changing the front brake padson my 2.1 Xantia

I am struggling to get the pistions to wind back into the calipers
I have got one to got back in far enough to fit the new pads but it took about an hour.

The other side doesn't seem to be going back in not matter how much I
wind it. I've been at it for a hour and a half!!
Am I doing something wrong.I'm turning them clock wise.
Is there an easy way of winding then back in.I'm currently using a piece of square bar.

Cheers

When I had a 2.1 I found it easier to wind with a bar, but also use another bar to lever and put pressure on the turning bar.

As John writes you must press on the piston while turning it - or it will not "grip".
Not a laughing fun job :?

It is a horrible job, but I found that you don't have to push it in whilst turning. Yo can just give it a few turns, push it in a bit, few more turns, another push etc, etc. It is much easier than turning whilst pushing.

Each time I do that job I promise to make up a better tool to use for next time....
