Xantia 19td 95n 139000 mls.
The clutch has been slipping for a while but tonight it gave up completly
I got towed home by the power of a 800 cc matiz
My question is how difficult is it to do a clutch change with jacks/ramps (in the cold )?
I have tried searching for a" how to do" but no success, keep getting sidetracked by other posts.
Last year I did the head gasket over three weekends (with help from various posts )So how would a clutch change compare ?
Garage quotes range from ?275 (a fast fit place) to ?400+at local garage, but now I have the problem of getting the Xan to the garage.
Thanks

You can't do it with just ramps. You'll need axle stands as a minimum, and a good jack to get the car well off the deck and to manoevre the engine and gearbox (unless you have a hoist).
Depends how much similar work you've done before - not too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first 'major' job.

have a peep here :

The "spanner rating" (difficulty) of a clutch job pretty much compares to the HG job you've already tried.
The quotes you've got on the job are not too bad considered its a major job.
