Sump drain plug

Can anyone tell me the size of the allen key for the sump drain plug.And is it a std. size or is it a special ??

on mine you can use a socket a 19 if memory serves me right

What year is the car? Early ones up to about 95/96 had a 8mm square hole (round shape plug), whereas later ones had a 21mm nut hexagon outer shape with an allen key inside. (can't recall size).

The later sump plugs with the hexagonal inner recess are in fact 20.8mm across the flats of the outer hexagon. This seemingly idiot size is in fact the same as a standard spark plug, so use a plug spanner socket on these drain plugs.
Being French, this applies to the diesels too.

The allen key is 8mm.

Topsy-Turvy Citroën - on my '93 XM TD12, the oil sump plug was an outer hex 21mm, while the "new" '98 XM 2.5 TD has an 8mm square recess! I guess they fitted what they had!

The sump plugs on my two can be removed with a 21mm hex, the later one has the square recess too.
