BX question......

Post by Dave Bamber »

When were coated brake/suspension pipes first used on the BX?

Around 1992 IIRC. If you're changing, better to use Kunifer instead, as it never rots, and is easier to get in. Coated pipes are not a panacea though - the rear curly brake pipes on my old Xantia rotted through in 9 years, despite being coated (but then the car did spend its first 3 years in inverness I suppose...!)

I think it was earlier than that, sometime in 1990.
I can remember test driving a January '91 H reg BX estate that had had all plastic coated pipes from new.

I'd go for a little before '92. My current BX is a '91 and its got plastics, its a J-reg and as i understand it ALL the j-reg had plastics. I'd guess it came in about the time of all the main changes, so around the late '90 early '91 mark, so H-reg ish, but its a bit of a lottery which does and doesnt have the plastics!

Mine was built in May 1989 according to its RP, and they were onprotected- I know because I had to change 'em all from the front backwards[xx(]!!!!!!!!

It must have been about the middle to end of 1990, then.

I ask as I've spotted an H plate BX estate on EBay for silly money but even cheapness wouldn't make me part with cash if the pipes are plain steel........
Thanks guys!
