What happens if it runs out? Haven`t checked mine yet, no warnings or anything, does the car still drive like an `ordinary diesel` until it is topped up with expensive additive, or are the Global Climate Change Committee and Nasa informed and your car stops by remote?
Great drive today, and can see the beauty of Hydractive Suspension, its like a glide - but springs are good too of course, and less hassle over time maybe

When you start getting towards the 80k mile mark, the warning could come on at any time. - Again, as per my previous post, is determines from the estimated quantity of fluid remaining and the miles to go before the next due service as to whether there is enough additive. If not, then it will flag the warning message and light up earlier to give you adequate notice to get it topped up. If you carry on regardless, ultimately it will go into back up mode, prevent limit engine revs, stop assisted regeneration and as a consequence the filter may start to clog - and once it clogs anywhere from 70% upwards, it may no longer be possible to regenerate the filter, necessitating removal and deep cleaning or replacement.
It's a good system and one developed and patented by PSA - that does get rid of 99.9% of particulate matter. It really only needs doing once or twice over the life of the vehicle, so not a big price to pay for the extra MPG. Of course from 2013 the Blue HDI models with SCR have further NOx reduction, so ADblue urea (cow pee) is used to convert 90% of NOx into harmless water.
So it's unfortunate that even these latest clean diesels are all tarred with the same polluting spin by politicians who encouraged us to buy them in the first place and even now, probably haven't got the faintest clue how clean they are or how they work!
And when we are all forced to go electric ultimately - no doubt the next big scandal will be the forced relocation of indigenous groups in South America and the like because all the lithium rich brine being extracted leaving no water to support the locals. Atacama is one such place in Chile.
