It's all in my post here:

Your build number is 11671, so Eolys 176 or the Walker equivalent, but it the tank is empty then it can be filled with Infineum F7995.

And you know to reset the Eolys counter to zero I guess Peter - at least on these models there's no changing the often problematic additive ECU, there isn't one on the X7, unlike on older models, where it often had to be replaced. On the X7 it is all handled by the Injection ECU, and that is where you will find the setting to reset the counter.

That may be the source of your 'Service' light.
Generally speaking! At approximately what mileage could one expect the "Low DPF fluid" message to start appearing on a DW10CTED4?

So to answer that you need to bear in mind the following.

It all depends on driving conditions as to how often assisted regeneration takes place. For example on this engine specifically, there are 5 driving types the engine ECU uses to determine the amount of soot in the filter. So the more 'Main Road' or 'Motorway' miles undertaken, the more natural regeneration can take place as the exhaust gas temperatures are higher and therefore there is less need for regeneration assistance and therefore less post-injection.
DescriptionAverage Regeneration Distance
Traffic conditions difficult124 miles
Traffic conditions fluid217 miles
Traffic conditions very fluid310 miles
Main road528 miles
Motorway932 miles

On this engine, they only fill the additive tank with 1.57 litres at the factory. The following table indicates the estimated additive fluid remaining at the stated mileages.

Bear in mind that these calculations are based on'severe driving conditions' - so a lot of stopping and starting driving, small trips etc.
Distance covered (miles)0187503750056250
Quantity (litres)1.571.1140.6580.202

So you will probably have the warning on before 75k miles or thereabouts. The engine ECU calculates the amount of additive it thinks is remaining in the tank and determines the miles remaining before the next due service. If it thinks you won't have enough additive before the next service, it lights up the warning earlier to remind you to get it refilled slightly earlier, rather than risk running out.

Thank you for that Marc. It confirms what I'd imagined. Mine is on 68K at present, but I'm taking the car abroad for four months in October so maybe I'll get it topped up before then.

That makes sense to be honest, and will give you peace of mind at least, as you don’t want this happening while you’re abroad. But like I say it should give you ample time from when the warning comes on. But if you’re going touring you really don’t wanna have that niggling at the back of your mind.

What happens if it runs out? Haven`t checked mine yet, no warnings or anything, does the car still drive like an `ordinary diesel` until it is topped up with expensive additive, or are the Global Climate Change Committee and Nasa informed and your car stops by remote?

Great drive today, and can see the beauty of Hydractive Suspension, its like a glide - but springs are good too of course, and less hassle over time maybe  .

No, it will shout at you, then if ignored, throw the bottle out of the pram by blocking the filter in the exhaust, requiring a new one. It's only the exhaust that's 'special', the engine is an 'ordinary diesel' (by today's standards that is).

Marc. Looking at one of your previous posts, it would seem that my DW10 -- RP No. 12125 requires Infinium F7995. Reading about what will mix with it and what won't leaves me utterly confused. Then I read that JLM Pat Fluid will mix with them all. See:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JLM-DPF-PAT- ... SwpHpbJBU5

What's your opinion?

Not quite John, that fluid is their equivalent to Infineum F7995, which is what your system will take - and should have the green click-fit connector.

Only the Green Types of Eolys 176 and Infineum can be mixed and Infineum is what PSA dealers now supply for Eolys 176 users as stocks have cleared and this is the replacement. You still cannot use Powerflex additive in your vehicle!

So stick to one of the Walker or JLM PAT fluids that are Infineum compatible and you will be fine.

When you start getting towards the 80k mile mark, the warning could come on at any time. - Again, as per my previous post, is determines from the estimated quantity of fluid remaining and the miles to go before the next due service as to whether there is enough additive. If not, then it will flag the warning message and light up earlier to give you adequate notice to get it topped up. If you carry on regardless, ultimately it will go into back up mode, prevent limit engine revs, stop assisted regeneration and as a consequence the filter may start to clog - and once it clogs anywhere from 70% upwards, it may no longer be possible to regenerate the filter, necessitating removal and deep cleaning or replacement.

It's a good system and one developed and patented by PSA - that does get rid of 99.9% of particulate matter. It really only needs doing once or twice over the life of the vehicle, so not a big price to pay for the extra MPG. Of course from 2013 the Blue HDI models with SCR have further NOx reduction, so ADblue urea (cow pee) is used to convert 90% of NOx into harmless water.

So it's unfortunate that even these latest clean diesels are all tarred with the same polluting spin by politicians who encouraged us to buy them in the first place and even now, probably haven't got the faintest clue how clean they are or how they work!

And when we are all forced to go electric ultimately - no doubt the next big scandal will be the forced relocation of indigenous groups in South America and the like because all the lithium rich brine being extracted leaving no water to support the locals. Atacama is one such place in Chile.

Is the Adblue in addition to the Eolys fluid or in place of?
