We had one with a fold down wringer when we got married, the cat used it to climb across it to get to the top of the boiler where she resided for much of the time, my wife left the machine open one night with some washing still in it. in the morning we were greeted by a very soggy moggy.

I used to repair those and the metal vacuum cleaners in my day.

LOML once got her hand dragged into the auto mangle on our first washing machine. How she didn't break any bones I don't know. From then on both of us were very careful when we fed things into the mangle.

My grandmother had one with wooden rollers about 4' long, had to turn it by hand though.
