Hi all, after spending a good few hours in a carpark (albeit my favourite beachside one) waiting for a tow the other day the diagnosis is new gear cables required for my 2009 207 SW with the 1.6 hdi.
The mechanic has quoted $1000 AUD ( £530 odd) plus fitting and a 12 week wait. Given the car is 15 years old that repair is not sounding worthwhile.
He quoted part 2444CZ and I have found genuine online for $275AUD excluding freight and if I can access the members area I may well tackle it myself. https://alvadi.ee/en/kataloog/varuosa/90838604/?sv=1
Earlier I tried to renew my donation status but not sure that it completed.
Can admin please check two things:
1) is this the correct part number for my VIN - VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
2) did the donation complete?
Thanks from Australia!

How did you make your donation? - there's no record for a Paypal donation, as this would automatically upgrade your membership. I've also checked the logs and there's nothing showing up via PayPal so far. Australian Dollars 19.61 at today's rate. Any issues or queries, just send me a Private Message.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
I tried doing it through the donation page and after selecting the amount it went through to my PayPal homepage but I don’t see it on my transaction record. I’ll try again. Thanks

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
As I read above you may need some help, give me 20 minutes to put together a procedure, then I'll provide the link here for you when I've finished it.

That's not the correct one!loafin_about wrote: 14 Jun 2024, 13:01 Marc you already have a procedure earlier up the post.

That procedure is specifically for the 'MA' type gearbox, not the 'BE4R' type that you have.

Great, amazing service as always Marc - although the first incorrect procedure looked a bit simpler!

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
The alternative part, 1684694580, is that still a genuine PSA part? I’m not finding many hits when I google it.GiveMeABreak wrote: 14 Jun 2024, 12:47 Thanks for your Forum Donation.

I will probably just go an aftermarket one - perhaps Borg and Beck if they are considered reasonable.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
Yes, it's a cheaper Peugeot approved official part and is listed underneath as an alternative.
As long as you match up the OEM part or the other part I have provided, you should be fine.

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
Do the cables just pop off the ball joints? I don't have the correct tool but surely it is just a piece of sturdy metal or plastic with a 10mm gap you use to lever them off? I have fashioned something to suit. Access is not great but unsure how much force to apply.GiveMeABreak wrote: 14 Jun 2024, 13:27 Here you are:

Re: Help required Identifying what 207 gear linkage cable
An open ended spanner does the job of the 'special tool' just find one that is just a tiny bit bigger than the ball, slide it under & pop it off. Dont know what your one is like but some gear cables have a button on the top that needs pressed in to release it from the ball joint, normally this type just lift off without any levering when the button is pressed in.loafin_about wrote: 28 Jun 2024, 09:03
