Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Not much to report although the Coolant Outlet has now been removed 5 bolts, 6 coolant hoses, 2 fuel hoses (for heating fuel) and the blue thermo sensor plug it's like an octopuss. Some of the outlet pipes are degraded/corroded slightly. Oh and I think I found a bleed point on the top of the Thermostat housing.
The Exhaust Manifold is proving troublesome to remove as the long studs are preventing removal so I'm hoping I can remove the Cylinder Head and slide the studs out at the same time.... I wonder if ANYONE has done it the Haynes B-o-L way, to me it's impossible to remove the Exhaust Manifold as instructed due to the steering rack preventing withdrawl over the studs .....

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Good work Gary
I had the same trouble when replacing the exhaust manifold gasket on an Activa. I *just* managed it by tilting the engine as far forward as possible after disconnecting the top engine mount... I needed to jack the engine away from the bulkhead!

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Can you pop two nuts into the stud tighten them together then undo the stud using the nuts own force against each other ? Plus some heat too ? Would that work ?

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Cheers Jim - I'm hoping as the Cylinder Head is eventually coming off sometime in 2026 it will be able to slide off the front of the engine block ...and slide off those long studs at the same time ....
HuskyXantia - yeah I tried locking two nuts together on the ones I could reach but they just both undone
Strange as 2 of the studs came straight out due to corroded nuts 'helping' lock themselves to the stud ....
The majority of fixings so far have come apart ...I had to cut the middle exhaust clamp off as it just twisted itself in a knot...missing so far is one exhaust nut (dropped) and the rear fixing (captured nut in plastic) of the Throttle Potentiometer which I had to mangle to remove...
I'm still not sure yet what will happen long term ...
Although I have seen a fully reconditioned (exchange basis if good condition) Cylinder Head available for £275
Happy New Year to all FCF members

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
That's the Inlet Manifold removed and you can now see how much stud is trapping the exhaust manifold from freedom...I'm hoping the head will slide off the front
INLET MANIFOLD 13mm LOWER NUTS x4 from below (LOST ONE NUT) 17 Ibf/ft
INLET MANIFOLD 6mm ALLEN HEAD BOLTS x4 from above ! (TIGHTER than lower nuts) 17 Ibf/ft
EXHAUST MANIFOLD NUTS x8 15 Ibf/ft
Just got to remove the remaining Fuel Injectors and pipes and the Accumulator Rail and then I should be ready .....
....to undo the Cylinder Head Bolts and see what lurks inside

Brilliant adding all the sizes and toque setting to the parts your working on, this will be excellent reference for the future

Re: XANTIA HDi RUNNING ROUGH
Almost there
The head is dowelled Gary but as long as you can lift it up and off them and the exhaust manifold is free to move upwards you should be OK...
