No haven't tested it yet. I was thinking how to seal the plug tightening rod for about 2 years and then it struck me

I have valprex valves on both my cars (V6 Activa and 1.9td) and they work fine for me. But as I said many people don't like them. Allegedly they start to leak...

Have used a good few 7mm Valprex valves, and only found one which wouldn't hold pressure.

Went looking for an O-ring a while back, as a slightly chubbier alternative to the rather thin (not much to compress) OE-size item that are supplied with Valprex valves. I had had one which leaked at the seal, despite inspection and cleaning.

who do a vast range of O-rings and other items, including Viton (FKM) rings...

In this range, there is O-ring ref BS110V75, which has a cross-section of 2.62mm, rather than the OE/Valprex 2.00mm. ID and OD fit the valves fine, and there is a decent nip onto the ring when tightened. Normally use a smear of silcone grease on the ring as well, as it is a 'dry' joint.

The same O-ring will also fit Citroen OE sphere plugs.

Good work indeed and very useful pictures of how to do a great job of repairing what is now a common rust issue on the Xantia. Well done!

That looks like a top class repair. Both xantias I have owned needed remedial work there, although none were so bad as that. I believe that nearly every xantia which hasnt yet been repaired in that area will need soon. The current one did not look bad, just a little bubbling, but the MOT man put his thumb straight through it, which then fails the MOT as it is too close to a seatbelt mounting.
