Could I ask a favour please?

Could you measure your dipstick for me and upload photo to show measurement please?

I've bought a replacement for my HDi and I am not convinced it is within specification. My old one had disintegrated so bad that I technically don't know where to measure from.

Desperate to change my oil this weekend but have no clue on whether the markings are 100% correct.

There is a trick to masking to avoid hard paint edges. See it done at Whiteland Restorations: from about 11:30.

Xantia v6. Yes that looks good, my problem now is age and stamina, I find it hard to get down and crawl on the floor, what with arthritis. I even have to now get a garage to replace the front brake pads on my car, this is something I have always done plus any mechanical repairs needed, it is hard taking it to someone else to fix. Beware all you fit members the day will come the same as me.

Rhothgar Roger? Will have a look later, You know its a Tuscon not a Cit/Pug.

Cheers Skull.

Ot would do if mine was right!!

Is yours the original dipstick?

Mine is 530 stop to top.

My high mark should be at 519. It’s at 505!!!!

Neither does mine have a ball. Not that that matters.

Came with the car 8 years ago :dunno: seems original (rubber loop handle) and certainly measures accurately on oil changes / re-fills.

My Haynes manual states that there is a litre between the lower and higher marks on the dipstick, which also relates to my dipstick marks.

Yep. A litre sounds right.

I think our HDi's take 4.5 litres with oil filter change so maybe I just have to do a flush and change next week, bang 4.5 litres in and see where it comes to on the dipstick.

It's a bit nuts how car factors can list these as being compatible when clearly they give a different reading!!! I begrudge paying Citroen £28 for a genuine one although if it lasted 24 years it wouldn't be so bad but doubt the car will last that long. I think every year is going to be its last...

My Haynes manual says Oil + Filter change 4.25 ltr with air con or 4.5 ltr without air con

* also a contradiction - difference between MAX and MIN dipstick marks 1.5 Ltr on page 1B.2 and 1 Ltr on page 1B,7 para 11

My (110) with air con equates to 4.25 Ltr and 1 Ltr between MAX and MIN marks on my dipstick.

Thanks for that.

I’ve clearly misunderstood the Citroen Mechanics Handbook it seems.

My aircon doesn’t switch on so maybe it’s out of the loop in terms of oil quantity.

Strange how it is more without aircon. I clearly have a limited grasp of that.

Got me wondering if dipsticks change according to aircon… 🫤

Presumably to get the engine running temperature the same there is a 1.5 litre more coolant (11 Ltr) in the air con engine. :dunno:
