Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
Aren't there S1 diagrams in the Haynes manual - yes, I KNOW, but absent anything else . . .
Also bear in mind that Scandi spec cars might have some sort of cold climate package, which could be relevant to any heating circuitry.

This is the only thing shown in the Haynes manual.
I have AC but nothing more related to the heat/cold

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
I do have some scanned Mk 1 diagrams, but need to know if the car is LHD/RHD, the engine type, whether it has A/C and the production date.

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
The nearest I have found is for a 1997 LHD S1 Xantia (petrol), which should be similar for the fans, but maybe has a later version of the A/C ECU.

The blower motor is component 8045 and the A/C ECU is component 8080.

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
Okay so i took the car to my local mechanic and apperently no power came from the ignition(burned he said) and the fan/fan resistors were broken.
Is it possible to get it to work again with this mod? + A new fan/resistor

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
That modification will work in most cases without replacing the ignition switch because the current required by the relay is much less than the current required by the blower motor.
Your mechanic is wrong in saying that the resistor is broken, as a Xantia with A/C has no fan resistor, there is an electronic speed control module which is built into the fan motor housing. These can be replaced (Chinese clones of varying quality are available), or repaired by replacing the power transistors.

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
Perhaps thats the one he called a resistor
I think i'll give the mod a try and just buy a new fan motor (it didnt work when feeding it directly with 12v according to mechanic) they wanted me to pay 500€ for changing everything haha
If that doesnt work i guess i have to buy a new ignition switch from my citroën dealer... For like 100€

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
The fan motor will not run with just 12V applied, it also need a control signal to the control module, or the control module bypassed.
You do not need to replace the ignition switch if only the fan/HRW contacts have failed, as the (new) relay can be driven from the normal ignition contact.

Alright!
Yeah the only thing that is "broken" is the hrw and fan, just got everything i need for the mod and i'll try to post some updates when i'm done

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
Relays are wonderful things, and take almost all the load off some of the not-particularly-heavy-duty switches. On XM, there is the baffling arrangement of having a relay for dip beam (2 x 55W), but main beam (also 2 x 55W) is straight off the lighting switch. Porque? Same vehicle, brake lights (4 x 21W, even without a high-level light) have no relay, so pedal-pad switch contacts eventually suffer contact burns.
Glad you are now fixed. Good move to lighten the load on the IGN switch.

On the XM, the dip beam lights are controlled by the ignition switch (via a relay), through the very same set of switch contacts that always fail on the S1 Xantia (where they directly control the fan), so Citroen knew that those contacts were weak, even before they designed the Xantia.

Re: Need help with my xantia. (Mk1)
Citroën's problem with switches that couldn't cope with the load of the component they operated goes back at least to the 2CV.
