update :

changing both DRL bulbs is (quite) easy .. I stuck LED's in, which have worked fine all day..
UK Offside is harder due to screen wash bottle.. it took about 30 mins of faffing.. other side took about 10 mins.

Finally headlights changed from pre-facelift xenon to facelift xenon with led-drl. One headlight had broken height corrector, changed it from old headlight. Also my other "new" headlight came without ballast, got one from old headlight. Headlight repair kit for broken brackets is super handy. Everything works 100%.

Great news - so that was the issue you probably had with the old unit then.

My old headlights worked just fine apart from low beam light on the dash blinking occasionally (something wrong with height corrector??). And one drl-bulb was broken again.

But headlight wiring loom seems to be same on pre-facelift and facelift cars. Also height correctors and ballasts are same.
