Re: Removing rear spheres on a Xantia?
The advantage (if it works) of the hammer and chisel technique is that it also shocks the sphere, which can help break them loose.

Re: Removing rear spheres on a Xantia?
I can confirm it works but you need a big punch too. use the cold chisel to raise a lip and then use a punch on the lip to do the rest else you’ll find a chisel just makes the lip bigger and bigger and wastes energy in enlarging the lip rather than getting the sphere loose...HDI wrote:I might well resort to that, I have a nice big cold chisel!
I use a 4lb club hammer behind the punch...

Thanks for the tip, I have a punch too. Also a dead blow steel hammer that tends not to take prisoners!!

Make sure to smack the chisel/punch squarely upon the head, and NOT upon the thumb!

Re: Removing rear spheres on a Xantia?
I have learnt this from others (as well as some language I cannot find in most normal dictionaries)! Something I try to do is not only to learn from MY mistakes, but to learn as well from the mistakes of OTHERS).CitroJim wrote:That's a good tip JamesHell Razor5543 wrote:Make sure to smack the chisel/punch squarely upon the head, and NOT upon the thumb!

If the ram persists in trying to turn then ballast in the boot is what you need, my personal record is a family of four perched in the boot while I belaboured the stuck spheres!
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
