It had a new caliber fitted to that brake about 3 months back, the pads were fine then. Getting down but healthy otherwise. So I did know they were due for replacing

That's true Malcolm and I see there's still a bit of friction material left. At least another 10 miles in those pads...

Re: Citroenmads Citroen blog.
Might be worthwhile fitting indicator and main beam warning lights - the wires are already there, just need a couple of little dash lights (If you can get some from a GS/A all the better as they're a perfect fit) and you're good to go.Citroenmad wrote: I might sped a bit more time doing some jobs on the 2cv tomorrow, in between some Uni work no doubt. The dashboard is out at the moment, revealing a ton of wires which once went somewhere and had a use, but now just look like a safety hazard. They need sorting and finding out what does what before I put the speedo back in. There is a replacement fuel gauge on the way, which should hopefully fix the temperamental registering.

So, doesn't the 2CV have those lights as standard?
I thought those were mandatory on all cars

It's an "after a certain age" requirement as far as I know. I never had MOT problems with any of my 2cvs. You really don't need an indicator tell tale in a 2cv!CitroJim wrote:So, doesn't the 2CV have those lights as standard?

Re: Citroenmads Citroen blog.
Yep, it had the indicator warning light but it was an aftermarket light and unsigntly. The main beam light had been attempted but it didn't work. As many things didn't! Not that there is much on a 2cv, but this one had hopless wiring. Luckily we had some spare light fittings on a spare Club dash.chopper602 wrote:Might be worthwhile fitting indicator and main beam warning lights - the wires are already there, just need a couple of little dash lights (If you can get some from a GS/A all the better as they're a perfect fit) and you're good to go.Citroenmad wrote: I might sped a bit more time doing some jobs on the 2cv tomorrow, in between some Uni work no doubt. Its hard to tell what was standard with this 2cv.CitroJim wrote:So, doesn't the 2CV have those lights as standard?

I forgot to take any before pictures. But think of a badly painted metal backing plate which had once been painted white, once been painted blue and then very badly painted black. Oh, and the switches, nuts and screws had also been painted! There were badly placed switched and warning lights too.
With the help of a friend, it now has a new dash backing plate, some replacement switches and a lot of new wiring! The fog light has a replacement switch and is now working correctly. The high beam light is correctly installed and works. The indicator flasher clicks and works the same light as the hazards (two seperate lights before). There is a working oil pressure light. The fuel gauage has been replaced with a fully working one. The bulbs have been repalced and are much brighter. And we did get the heated rear window working but there is only one element which heats. So I've not bothered placing a switch for that as its not worth putting another hole in the dash for it as it doesnt work.
Its looking much better:

The green wire is now not there.
It wasn't without its hassles though. The original wiring was so bad that, on a second trial attempt at the functions, the car and under bonnet filled with smoke
I'll have to take some better pictures and of the seats too, which are looking much better and are so much more comfortable.
Im pretty sure I could have almost had the dash out and back in on a Xantia in the time that lot took
Two weeks yesterday is the 2cvGB Raid Tan Hill event, which I will be attending in the Beachcomber. Ought to be after all these hours on the seats, dash and carb

I would suspect meeting at Hawes, its what we have done previously. The drive drom there to Tan Hill is about the best bit.chopper602 wrote:So are you doing the full run from Leeds or just meeting up with them at Tan Hill or Hawes?Citroenmad wrote: Two weeks yesterday is the 2cvGB Raid Tan Hill event, which I will be attending in the Beachcomber. I don't know what I'm doing yet - might take the 'other' car and meet up there (you can order your food before the hoards arrive that way!)
