xantia caliper

i've just put a new caliper and pads on the o/s front of a xantia.i started to bleed the brakes with the engine off,then i started the engine and undid the bleed nipple whilst my wife pressed down on the footbrake. the pedal went to the floor where she held it until i tightened the bleed nipple.the problem now is that the brake pedal will not return up to it's normal position but lays spongy about 2" from the floor.any suggestions please because i can't think of any cause for it.

Silly question - but have you checked if the brakes work actually ?
I cant think of other problems than something is screwed up with the "spongy springy feeling" spring added to Xantia brake pedals.

Anders,yes the brakes work ok,i tried them on aroad test but the pedal is lower by about 5 or 6 cm.it's certainly a puzzle.

Hi crooser
I have the same problem with the brake pedal low to the floor
The slightest touch of the pedal sets off the brake lights
There is no air in the system and the brakes are free
If you have solved the problem what was it?

The brake lights will come on as the switch is under the pedal rubber and is thus foot actuated as opposed to the the conventional switch at the top of the pedal
