pressure relief on system

Unread post by Mark_Lancaster2026 »

Hi
I am sorry if this has been previously covered but I am thinking about servicing the hydraulic system my self and was looking for some advice.
I want the replace the hydraulic pump and my Xantia and the front accumulator. I know that I have to lower the car to remove pressure from the system and then release the pressure plug to release all the pressure.
But I am uncertain where it is , on the pump its self or on the accumulator ?
are there any other pitfalls I should be aware of

thanks in advance

I think you will be able to find the Repair Procedure for that starting at: https://szervizdoksi.hu/citroen/sb.html#/v?ldp=1C2X :)

I got to this page as an example but not using your car's details : https://szervizdoksi.hu/citroen/sb.html ... CT0337&t=2
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

The pressure release screw is on the regulator (that the accumulator is attached to). Only needs to be undone a couple of turns.

on the pressure accumulator....No need for more than a single turn ( DO NOT REMOVE the Bolt!as there is a spring and ball bearing in there) , low on the front of the engine (13mm ?)

12mm IIRC but the main take-away from the above, which I second, is the DO NOT REMOVE!

Also (for future reference if needed) when planning to replace the rear corner spheres, do remember to "crack" them loose maybe 1/8turn with the suspension on high (body supported for safety) before going through the depressurising. Try and loosen them with the pressure off & you'll just twist off the return lines from the cylinder boot & possibly damage the high pressure line too. Not that I speak from bitter experience or anything...

A fair bit yes, not quite as much pain as she's just caused me having finally got her through her MoT, including £450 worth of new windscreen and the (hopefully now resolved) fight with the aforementioned return lines/boot only to start displaying fairly spectacular head gasket failure symptoms...

She's not had good luck with engines this old girl, we bought her 10 years back with something like 98k miles and a thrown rod! This'll be the second engine replacement she'll have had since I'm likely just going to throw in a good spare we have & deal with the head gasket at my leisure.

Another bit of advice I can give you now I think of it, is treat her right & she'll reciprocate. I think our current situation is her revenge for leaving her sat with smashed 'screen for a couple of years, so do not abuse them they have feelings and ATTITUDE big time lol
