308 GT line sill skirt removal

Unread post by PaulC5 »

I need to paint the left side sill plastic skirt on our 308 after scraping it. Rattle can painting it off the car would be a lot easier than on it with no masking up needed. Pictures of the part (9806944977) shows it to be just held on to the sill by 14 clips so should just pull off. Has anyone removed it, hoping there might be some tips to avoid breaking it and damaging the sill paintwork ? I would get new clips before starting as these will likely break.

Personally Paul I'd spend the time to mask up and paint it on the car, less likely to discover unexpected issues that way!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I have been able to have a good look and the skirt is partly lifted away from the sill in the middle so a clip might be broken or come out. From this it should be easy enough to work in both directions to get it off the car. I tried to push it back but it did not clip back so I may have no choice but to remove it. It is not much of a skirt, just a fancy strip of plastic so I hope not to find any hidden corrosion underneath. Only a few weeks ago I sprayed the inside lower edge of the Cactus driver's door due to rust and it took longer to mask up than paint, hence if possible wanting to do the skirt off the car.

Annoying I did it. Our daughter had parked her car (Cactus) in the narrowest of spaces, a single space between 2 pillars in a multi story car park, scraped the left side getting it in and could not get it back out. It saved her going up a few more levels where there were many spaces. She had been advised not to use the car park but she knew best. If I had a photo I could put it on the car parking topic. She went off to the cinema leaving the car so we went and I got it out needing to fold the left door mirror. It is a fifty year old car park with small spaces, ok for a 1960s mini but the exit is not much wider than the 308. I did not notice a kerb at the left side and just caught the skirt. It is the Lincoln Lucy Tower car park and looking at reviews on it cars frequently get damaged at the exit. This is the google street view of the exit https://www.google.com/maps/place/Linco ... FQAw%3D%3D

Sorting the Cactus needs the door mirror tip touching up, the rear door handle touching up, the door rubber pads cleaning (thank you Citroen for these) and the rear wheel arch plastic trim rubbing with a pan scourer so easier than the 308 to patch up. Just need to get the car off her for a few hours.

Having obtained an aerosol (Fisher Motor Factors, Lincoln) I was going to remove the skirt today until I found it is coming apart. It is a box section with the inner part clipped to the sill and the outer part glued or some other way so the 2 parts are one piece. Where it is coming away from the sill in the middle is because the 2 parts are unstuck. The inner is tight against the sill so I have left it for now, possibly needing a new/used part if I can not glue the 2 back together. A new skirt (9806944977) is about £300 from our Peugeot dealer, used a lot less with some in Lithuania in the right colour. Insurance excess is £150 so probably not worth a claim as it may impact our other car's insurance.
