My normally reliable Nemo, let me down today. Went out for 2hrs as normal perfect and then had to go out again. 400yards from the house the engine made a sound like gravel on the wheel arch and died instantly. I have removed the top cam belt cover and checked the cam belt is ok and the engine turns over normally, speed and effort but is completly dead, like a switch was turned off
Any experts out there who can offer advice ? Thanks

Welcome along
Is this a 16 valve engine? Did you crank it with the belt cover off - DV engines like to strip teeth off the belt, so can look OK at the top, and be under tension, but not go round when cranked.

think it is just a basic 8v and I had someone crank it over whist i watched the crank turned and the camshaft so I would suppose it was ok, thanks for taking the time to reply

Need a diagnostic session - usually these only stop suddenly if the cam belt breaks, but there are always exceptions. Want to look at live data to see that you have engine speed signal, crank / cam synch, and fuel pressure when cranking. This will give you a pointer as to where to look.
