Hi everyone,

I just finished a major job replacing the heater core on my Clio, which as you know, requires tearing down pretty much the entire dashboard and cabin.

Now I’ve ended up with a persistent airbag light, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to start troubleshooting this.

I scanned the car with Renolink, and the fault codes point towards the rear seat belt pretensioners. You can see the codes in the attached image:

• 9016 – Enrouleur pyro arrière côté passager (Rear passenger side pyrotechnic pretensioner)
• 9015 – Enrouleur pyro arrière côté conducteur (Rear driver side pyrotechnic pretensioner)
• Both codes show “Circuit ouvert” (Open circuit).
• The fault is both present and active (DTC présent = 1).

I highly suspect I’ve left a wire unplugged somewhere, but I just can't find the matching connector for it.
On the passenger side near the door/footwell area, there is a loose black and yellow connector (shown in the picture) that I can't find a match for. The wire doesn't reach very far, maybe about 20cm, so roughly to the glovebox area. On the other hand, it looks like it might come from the airbag module inside a larger wiring loom.

Additionally, right by the airbag module, there is an identical yellow and black connector, but I can't find a matching plug for that one either. Is there supposed to be a wire connected to it? I was wondering if a wire should run from there up along the side of the heater core housing, but if so, I have no idea where I could have misplaced it. Or could this be a completely different issue? I strongly assume everything is related to this loose wire...

Any help or insight would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know if this may help but have a look and see what you can work out (ignor the link title): :)

See if this helps...

This is a Renault rear Sealtbelt/Pretensioner of 2003 vintage. The dtc's relate to the rear pretensioners so a reasonable approach would be to uncover the rear seatbelt and pretensioners assembly and follow the wiring from there back to the SRS ecu. Clearly the SRS ECU has detected a lack of continuity in the circuit from the SRS ECU to the rear pre-tensioners, so there is some break in the wiring/connectors.

The photos you include also show that the side-curtain air bags passenger and driver are not detected. Is your vehicle fitted with those airbags? Not all models/trims may include the curtain airbags. I suspect your vehicle may not have them and hence possibly responsible for the "unused" connector" on the loom. Despite non-detection they don't appear to throw throw up a fault code which would be logical if the side curtain airbags are not present in your specific vehicle.
