106 idleing at 4000rpm

Good evening folks,

I've just got hold of a lovely low mileage 106, 18,500 with one previous owner.

It runs beautifully most of the time, however it's over-revving when I change gear, sometimes it revs to 4000rpm and stays there until I turn the car off, it seems fine once I restart it.

Has anyone had this before? Do I need to be looking at cleaning up the throttle body?

Throttle cable...?? does the accelerator peddle go loose/stay down ?
Sticking T-body butterfly
big feet/carpet

Take off air supply hose and have a look ?

The peddle feels normal, I'll take the air supply off and have a look. I'm pretty sure it's not my size 11 stompers but it's every bit plausible

First make sure the throttle flap is shut.
Then try the throttle position sensor. Like the one above. It’s on the throttle body throttle flap end.
Not every model has one like that.
They will have a stepper motor like this. Naturaly clean out the throttle body and flap with carb’ cleaner.
