How to enable request DPF regen on FAP app

Unread post by parnell »

So I fixed my Citroen C8 2.0 HDi thanks to the members here - it did two regens alone during a 800km round trip.
However as I was returning home - with the amount of motorway running rapidly out I wanted to request a regen on the FAP app - most of the stuff on the app is in English but some menus are in Russian- I cant figure out how to enable this functionality and I believe it exists - as I remember reading somewhere here of a fella using the request regen functionality to get him home.

Thanks for all help as usual.

Translate / Identify the Russian Menu
If menu options appear in Russian script, look for the following text strings:
Тесты компонентов / Тестирование (Component Tests / Testing)
Регенерация сажевого фильтра (Particle Filter Regeneration) or Принудительная регенерация (FAP/DPF) (Forced Regeneration).
3. Requesting the Regeneration
Select the Регенерация FAP / DPF option.
Tap Старт / Запуск (Start/Initiate).
The ECU will validate condition checks (coolant temp, speed, exhaust temp). If accepted, the app status will update to "Regeneration Requested" or "Запрошено".

A very kind forum member provided me with a download link to the English version of the application - which solves the Russian issue.
I fired it up and under the component tests menu I dont see anything about particle filter regeneration - see attached image.

Im wondering is it because I loaded the app before I started the engine? Cos it says explicitly (see screenshot) - "Tests with the engine stopped" - I guess I can try starting the app with the engine running to see if it shows something else.

Try it that way see if it makes any difference sometimes rebooting app or programes seems to make it work

Tried it every way and couldnt get the top of the test screen to change from "Tests with the engine stopped." to something else - Im running version 1.62 - are you running something else ? Im also using the Nexas nexlink (since many members got results with that). Perhaps you could post up a screenshot from the menu ?
Thanks!

It seems there is a newer app being developed - Diagcore - which would offer this feature - I downloaded it from google play and the layout is gorgeous - crucially it does offer the possibility of regeneration requests - however the bad news is that it doesnt seem (yet) to be able to read my vehicle's data outside of RPM and speed.

Surely the whole point of a forced regeneration is that it takes place on a stationary vehicle. The engine is run up to operating temperature and then loaded with the heated rear window, etc operating to keep the temperature high. It's a brutal process and, because there's no natural cooling that a vehicle in motion would have, there's a strong possibility of damaging the DPF. There are photographs on the internet of DPFs with the filter medium melted from overheating.

So, I have to ask, what would be the point of provoking the regeneration process if the system has already decided that the temperature, etc are not high enough?

Thanks for the question - on my Citroen C8 regeneration takes place regularly (according to FAP APP pro values) when the soot loading reaches 5.1 g / l , there is suffiicient fuel in the tank , the RPM is above 1800 and the exhaust temperature is hot - say 300 - 350C. Now lets imagine that you are on the motorway with about 30kms of it left and you have a soot loading of somewhere around 4-4.5g on the vehicle and your hypothetical missus (no relation to my Eastern European model :) ) knows very little about cars other than its your job to make sure they work when she wants and she mostly does short journeys....
Well in such a situation it would be great to set the parameter "DPF regeneration request" which you can find on Diagbox from "No" to "Yes" and get the DPF cleaned before you return it to her prettier but less caring (from a mechanical perspective) hands.
Basically a feature where you know that conditions OTHER than the degree of soot loading are fulfilled - but you are running out of road/kms in order to perform a successful regen in order to do that and want to avoid an interrupted regeneration.
Hopefully that makes the application clear.

Yep, that sounds like a valid reason!
