Both LUK and Valeo list 2 sets for this engine, with the change over at RP 14469 (20 06 2016). Both 250mm, so no idea what the difference is!

Yours was reg 27 05 2016 so should be the earlier one - Valeo kit 837396 (4 part) / LUK 625 3203 33 (3 part, ex flywheel - only seems to list one flywheel 425 0853 10).

If only we still had access to service box and could look up the OE part numbers. And prices for a laugh

These folks?

Ah, not come across them, I'll keep them in mind - thanks :)

They do list a clutch kit, LUK for my car and pleased to see it's 250mm as expected:

Seems a good chunk more expensive (£556.49 for clutch, pressure plate and release bearing/slave cylinder - Vs £475 for the same plus DMF I've just bought. (Valeo branded)

Are they one of these endless different discount places, like Autodoc?
They tend to have a sale on near bank holidays. Luckily for me there parts department said no and refused to send them as they wouldn't fit, so at least saved me the p&p sending them back.

I don’t want to derail your thread, but …

Does this car have a dual mass clutch?

And if so, will you replace it with the same? Or will you replace it with a standard clutch? In Australia, the clutch conversion kit is quite expensive, but it means that future clutch replacements will be a lot cheaper.

In both my early 406 and my 307, I opted for a single clutch. But I’m not convinced that I’m capable of doing the job, so I had mechanics do both cars. They were expensive jobs! But they were done by different mechanics.

The 406 was done by a person who knew Peugeots. The clutch was replaced in 2013 or 2014 and it is still perfect in operation.

The 307 was done by someone who is a good mechanic, but isn’t a Peugeot person. He said he was willing to learn about Peugeots, but the clutch on the 307 is really rough to use. It’s hard to take off from a standing start without the car shuddering.

I feel like a novice driver who has no idea how to drive a manual car! It’s the complete opposite to the 406. My hope is that the clutch will die quickly and that I’ll be able to get it replaced by someone who can get it working without shuddering. I don’t know if this shuddering is built into the replacement clutch or if it’s just a bad job of installing the clutch. Hopefully it isn’t built into the car having been changed from a dual mass clutch to a single mass clutch. I suppose only time will determine that. Or maybe I don’t know enough about the clutch to answer the question.
Cheers,
Andrew

The difference is an extra £70! :-D

Yep, both 250mm and from the pictures look the same (assuming no "stock photo" nonsense going on!

My RP is 14400 (Tuesday 12.4.2026 says https://www.mittns.de/core/orga-rechner-en/ )

Hurrah! That's what I've bought (2nd time round)

Too late to worry about that! :rofl2: washing machines, gardening and all sorts of non-car related stuff slips in - all good!

308 : Yes it's a dual mass flywheel - most of the HDi engines are to my knowledge, as I understand it only the original 90 bhp 2.0 8 valve HDi being conventional solid flywheel. It's bigger brother the 110 bhp 8 valve and most other HDi = all DMF equipped.

I've kept it with DMF. Conversion kits not a lot cheaper than keeping it as Peugeot intended and to be honest I'd say most UK cars are unlikely to see their third clutch (as something else will kill them off, e.g. rust!)

Diesels make quite severe torsional vibrations between power strokes and my understanding is that at idle speed in particular these are pretty harsh for the gearbox to deal with.

I've done clutch changes in the past (including the 306: pull type that is a bit of a faff!) but the 308 is probably going to be the biggest job just given the amount of "stuff" in the way before I am pulling the gearbox off. Not sure if the subframe has to come off (it did on the C5 - ah, looking at the pictures, no it was just the crash bar frame thing I got away with, looking back:

Ha ha, very true!

Ok, definitely not "remote" but far enough that waiting for help Vs having a go fixing myself, I'd go for the latter

Take a few photos of all the cables , loom, and stuff that lays over the gear box , when my c3 was done my friends and me took the engine and gearbox out in one go, then all three of us undertook a task each thus getting everything done that was needed doing .

My experience with solid vs dual mass

There is a slight difference in power and if your like me you might feel a little vibration not much but I did , fuel difference, not much , life span solid will be longer , dual mass smoother as in drive , gear change, but I'd say the solid is a 8.5 out of 10 , dual is a 9, If I needed another clutch I'd go solid , if you tow stuff , solid all day .
Husky. :? Thinking outside of the box is better than sitting in a dark one.

Yes, good plan with respect to lots of photos - Will do.

Interesting first hand experience - thank you :)
