C5 x7 air conditioning

Hi all,

C5 x7, 2008 hdi,

My air conditioning just doesn’t seem to be working well.
It’s never worked since I owned the car, nearly six years now but with the summer we’re having I thought I better get it fixed.
I had a friend regas it and discovered it wasn’t holding pressure. Discovered a split pipe so replaced it and tried again.
Success the second time and the clutch kicked in and had cold air blowing.
It just doesn’t seem cold enough at all, not really any difference in temperature from having non AC cold air blowing.
It’s definitely not as cold as my mrs c4 air conditioning is.
I also replaced the cabin filter as someone suggested that had a lot to do with it.
I’m wondering if it’s just that having it not working for so many years has rendered it useless.
Not sure what to try next……
Apparently there’s a couple of different types of AC unit for my c5, mines the one with A/C button not the snowflake symbol if that means anything to anyone.
I do have. Lexia if that’ll help it at all

As you have a lexia have you run a global scan to see what comes up?

I assume so, my mate that did the regas is a professional mechanic with many many years experience. He plugged it in to his automated regas set and let it do its thing.
Seemed to work really well first day, then I didn’t use it for a few days, then just used it infrequently since.
The clutch still clicks and spins so the car obviously considers that there’s enough juice in it.

The clutch will still engage with low refrigerant levels down to a certain point. I had mine regassed a couple of weeks ago because although working it was not as cold as it used to be. They removed 135g and vacuum tested all good. Refilled with the correct amount, 430g, and it has been fine since. Did your man perform a vacuum test and did it hold the vacuum? If there is a minute leak it might account for your situation.

I’ll talk to him and ask, as I said, it was an automated system so I’d assume it vacuumed correctly

I would also say that there is probably a leak. It is also possible for the drier to degrade and block the refrigerant circuit if the system is filled after being empty for a long period.

If the drier has started to disintegrate it can send debris towards the expansion valve, which (probably) has a fine mesh filter on the input connection to catch it.

You really need to get the pressures and temperatures checked to avoid excessive guesswork.
