Think in your case Jim most likely it won't be a case of scouring the ads etc - you'll randomly hear that someone you know is thinking about selling something that suits you. Likely get a good deal because they know you and know they'll have a hassle free sale. Probably when you're least actively looking for it!

As for cars that don't hurt the knees what about the fiat panda ? Or the hyundi i10 or i20 ,ive seen an i20 with bike rack on the rear .

Yesterday I drove the Pic. with the seat in a different position. Although only about 15 miles, it did seem to be a bit better although hard to tell really after a five mile hike around a country park either chasing a toddler or carrying her on my shoulders

The i10 I've completely ruled out due to its shoebox-sized boot. The i20 I have heard bad things about its automatic transmission. The Panda is one I've not even thought about. Might be worth consideration...

Bike racks, unless they're very expensive properly designed roof-mounted ones, are hateful things Been there!

Bluebell now seems to be running reliably and is 100% oil-tight after her recent work. The alternator continues to function correctly after its regulator replacement so on that basis, I can now confidently take Strawberry off the road for a while and get on with work on her.

I will alco be commencing work on the posh van very soon. No real timescales as my health continues to be very variable. Due to that, very little has been achieved this week

I must say there's some tasty stuff in that auction and tempting opening prices that will likely go stratospheric once bidding commences!

Bluebell had a bit of a stroppy day yesterday...

All of a sudden she cut out at a junction, ran roughly on restart and lacked a bit of oomph... Then it all seemed to clear. Then it kept reappearing at random intervals before becoming fully established until I was forced to keep the choke pulled out a little to keep her running.

It felt like an air leak... And it was... The little blanking cap I filled ages ago to bypass the split diaphragm in the choke pulloff actuator had perished...

Replaced it and all came good

This was the last of my stock of old XUD Diesel Injector leakoff blanking plugs... They always had a bad reputation for quickly perishing.

Then on my way home from a great lunch with Mick, the ignition warning light came on. It stayed on for a worryingly long time before going out for a while, coming back on and then going off for the rest of my journey home and was good for a second errand later in the afternoon.

I don't believe it's the (repaired) alternator failing as at the same time as the light came on, the fuel gauge fell to almost zero. It looks like an intermittent high resistance to the dash/instruments. I have a good idea where the problem lies and will be looking late this morning...

Yesterday, the Fancott Miniature Railway hit the BBC news headlines when it was recorded as one of many that have suspended steam services pro-tem whilst the current rather pleasantly warm and dry weather persists.

Whipsnade Zoo is the other local steam railway to suspend steam services. I captured this image of it on my last visit...

I had a look at Bluebell's electrics yesterday and checked and cleaned this large connector block that distributes battery to the ignition switch, instruments and dashboard controls...

During errands yesterday, including a visit to our brand-new hospital diagnostic centre in the city centre, Bluebell performed faultlessly.

So too was the phlebotomist You'd never know she'd taken an armful of blood; the last one, whilst a lovely lady, left a bruise of some epic proportions
