Hi, I am currently having issues with a hard brake pedal a low revs, enough so that it has come up as an mot fail. At higher revs it seems to produce enough vacuum to keep the pedal soft.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience in replacing the diaphragm of the vacuum pump vs the whole pump as these are available at about half the price ?
Initially I will try replacing the hose and belt to try and get more vacuum, if anyone has any other tips/experience in this it would be much apreciated!

Have you checked the little air intake filter to the pump is clear Alex?

I once replaced the diaphragm in one of these with flat (non-stretchy) diaphragm rubber sheet. It was still worked OK when I sold the car. You need to make sure the cam is at the maximum displacement of the diaphragm, but then be careful the corrugated folds this produces do not get trapped as you tighten down the screws.
