Hi, I have a 1987 205 GRD that has developed a problem with the braking system, namely at low revs it seems that the servo vacuum pump is not working correctly as the brake pedal becomes very hard & doesn't travel as far as usual.I suspect that the vacuum pump is on its last legs but before I shell out for a new one I wondered if anyone had any other ideas as to another reson for this happening.
Many thanks
Clive

Had a similar problem on an old Lada years ago. Turned out to be the rubber pipe between the manifold and servo had collapsed, stopping the vacuum. Could be something like that. Or maybe it could be the one-way valve that connects the pipe to the servo. Worth checking before you lash out on a new pump.

I had similar problems with a 309 diesel, try looking at the condition of the drive belt for the vacuum pump and the hoses.
I eventually fitted jubillee clips to the hoses to ensure a tight fit to the pipes coming out of the top of the pump. There is a replacement diaphram available from the dealers, it is sometimes as cheap to fit a second hand unit as, in my case, the aluminium valve block at the top of the housing had broken.
Try the clips on the hoses and work from there.
