KFU Engine idling at 1600rpm

Hi everyone,

I have a Peugeot 207 1.4 Semi-Auto with the KFU engine, and I’m experiencing an issue where it idles at around 1500–1600 RPM. I purchased the car with a gearbox problem, which initially prevented the engine from starting. Since then, I have replaced the clutch, clutch actuator, and serviced the vehicle, including replacing the cam belt. While the car now runs, but with a high idle

When I scanned the vehicle, the following error codes were recorded:

• P0170

• P0010

• P0012

• P0172

As soon as I start the engine, the only code that reappears after clearing them is P0010.

Additionally, I’ve replaced the following components without any improvement:

• Spark plugs

• Coil pack

• VVT inlet cam pulley

I’ve also inspected the purge valve and conducted a smoke test, which showed no issues.

My next steps are to replace the cam and crank sensors, as well as the throttle body. I’ve come across several threads discussing similar problems, but no solutions seem to have been effective.

This car is for my daughter, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Does the throttle pedal work? Sometimes if there is no, or incorrect signal, it defaults to a high idle (but you have no codes, so probably not).

What does the freeze frame / live data say behind the codes? Often codes for multiple items are related to loss of reference voltage or earth.

I have now changed all the sensors and the throttle body, but it’s still the same. I have checked the throttle pedal and it all appears to be working as it should in live data. I have attached an image of the freeze frame data

The coolant temperature there is low, it should be up in the 80-90s when the engine is warmed up. so that may be affecting the ECU idle control.

Then that suggests the temperature sensor is sending the wrong info to the ECU. Measure the temperature of the thermostat housing and check it is showing 86+. If so then the sensor would appear to be faulty causing the ECU to maintain high revs at tickover. Replace the sensor!!

As you have replaced most of what may cause a high idle, it might be worth checking that the engine ECU is aware of the state of the transmission. Since the time these small PSA engines acquired a reasonably competent engine management system, they have set the idle to be faster when it thinks the car is in motion or coasting down to a stop and only reducing its idle to well below 1000 rpm when the car is not moving. This was to ensure a smooth deceleration and would be especially so with a small automatic.

As this car has had gearbox issues it might be worth checking the engine ECU is in correct communication with any gearbox ECU and that the engine ECU is aware of the speed the vehicle is (or is not) moving at.

If the gearbox is electronic and it allows it, there may be some benefit in carrying out a reinitialisation. You do not say what the gearbox problem was but it might well have some bearing on your current issues.

Note that this is all guesswork as I have no experience of the car in question - I just know what generally goes on but in the case of your particular car it may be largely incorrect.
