Hi Turfite,
A couple of things.
The parts in the die cast case come apart easily, just take a photo before dismantling or keep one motor intact as a pattern to reassemble when cleaned and greased.
Your reference to a plastic cover has me stumped.
The shaft that the magnet sits on and has a worm drive at the end comes out of a circular metal case containing the windings and brushes of the electric motor.
I did not have to disturb mine so am not able to comment.
Sorry I would like to help, you could run it without the wipers and if the movement is jerky then maybe the electric motor is failing.
