Rough sketch of my first thought!! each handle has its own spindle with interlocking cogs? :-D
Just a thought!!

My first thought is that it's simply a demo of two different spacings available to suit different lock mechanisms.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

I find Amazon.fr are fine for most things & relatively easy to deal with if there's a problem. It also beats driving around to view an item in umpteen shops as most only stock a very small range.
Recent experiences are ;
Searching for a replacement for a 20 yo well known brand of cooker hood. I spoke to manufacturer's technical dept. who said my old model was obsolete & offered a similar looking & sized direct replacement. Looking at their website the noise levels were comparable with the old'un so I ordered one from Amazon rather than direct from manufacturer.
It turned our to sound like a jet engine on full chat & manufacturers tech. dept. didn't want to know when I complained.
Sent it back via Amazon & got full refund PDQ. No idea what would have happened if I'd bought it direct but no doubt problems.
Bought another make (Grundig) with lower stated noise levels & made the alterations to fit it.
Chalk & cheese with this hood's noise level totally acceptable.

Recently bought a wheeled cord-less strimmer from Amazon to save Mme's back. Reviews were pretty good & priced mid range.
It was rubbish & impossible to use without cutter blade digging in when push/pulled due to the geometry of thing & blade spindle came adrift with blade attached.
Sent it back with reimbursement to our A/C just hours after it was deposited at local post office with Amazon returns paperwork.
Lesson learnt & another, more expensive, unit with better geometry bought from Amazon which has turned out to be excellent.

Like Bezos or not, Buying from Amazon does give one confidence that problems will be amicably resolved & it beats the hell out of driving all over the place to view small & most times non existant stock.

Never had any problems with Amazon, also bought from Amazon in Germany, USA and Japan without any drama other than import duty from Japan, not Amazon't fault (DPD).
But as you mention Bezos is persona non grata and I limit my purchases to Kindl now, not a lot of choice in that unfortunately.

I agree about Bezos but I figure my & thousands of other's contributions to his wealth wouldn't exactly bother him if we shopped elsewhere so I bite the bullet, & say a quiet & hypocritical "thanks Jeff" each time I look at the enormous range of products available at the touch of a button, delivered quickly & cheaply with their Prime system. Seriously, where else can you get next day delivery on a 5 euro item for peanuts & who wants to drive around shopping this weather?
I just ordered 10 electric roller shutter fixing thingies from a stockist, cost 15€ with delivery 10€ taking almost 2 weeks.
Makes Amazon Prime a no brainer if they stock something you need.
